About Me

Hello again! As you already probably have figured out my name is Marcus, I have created this website as a hobby project. It has been super fun so far, and I would really recommend someone pursue a similar project as a hobby.

In this "about me" section, I will just say a little bit about myself and my interests. I have a couple of special interests that you can maybe read some more about on the other sections of my website (if I have made them yet lol).

I am interested in fun "backyard" science. I built a furnace in my backyard. It is the same design as Grant from the Youtube channel The King Of Random showcased ages ago in some 2010's year. The video is an amazing one, and Grant is one of many people who I watched on youtube over the years to help develop my passion in doing experiments and mucking around on random projects. Other people that I love(d) to watch are people like Cody's Lab, Nile Red, NightHawkInLight, Ave, This Old Tony, Super Fast Matt, I did a Thing and Extractions and Ire.

But anyway, I have done some cool thing with the furnace. I have used it for casting some things like chess pieces, and heat treating knives. You can hopefully read lots about my knife making journey on the projects tab of the website.

I also really love listening to 70's music, my favourite genre is progressive rock and hopefully I have added some of my very own album reviews to my website. I would love to recommend the Youtube channel Sea of Tranquility to anyone wanting to explore any kind of old school rock music. It seems like the host of the show is really cool!

My other special interest is much more calm than the extreme heat of knife making and the extreme sounds of prog rock. It is bonsai! I really don't claim to be an expert in the art of bonsai, quite the opposite actually. I got my first two trees in the autumn of 2021, and only one of those trees is still with us. I have had some successes growing fig trees, but also have a pretty little juniper. I have killed multiple trees, but my collection is looking healthy at 9 trees. I also have some flowers that I keep, they are just the typical Bunnings varieties, but they are still special to me. If I could recommend one thing to anyone reading this, it would be to keep a plant, one that requires some effort, like a bonsai. It is really liberating and I always know that I can take a break from life and enter in my little bonsai world for just a sec, relax and recharge, and then feel ready to take on life again. Also, there are some pretty wholesome and welcoming bonsai communities around. So check it out!!!

If you have read this much of what I have written, you must be very brave for continuing to read more. But, I an in the middle of a PhD at the moment. It is going pretty good, I am not sure if im allowed to say what it is about, and I think I ought to err on the side of caution and just not say anything about it. Just know that it is really, really cool.

I am not sure if that is a good "about me" section, but oh well, I hope you liked it.

Cheers, Marcus
